John Floyd
John Floyd represents both plaintiffs and defendants at the trial and appellate levels in cases involving business torts, the federal and state Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations ("RICO") statutes, health care, and professional liability. He has also conducted internal investigations for institutional clients. John is the author of RICO State by State: A Guide to Litigation Under the State Racketeering Statutes (American Bar Association, Section of Antitrust Law 1998) and numerous book chapters and articles concerning federal and state RICO. A frequent lecturer on issues related to RICO, John served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia in its largest RICO prosecution and the companion civil RICO forfeiture action, and as a Special Assistant District Attorney in the successful prosecution of Sidney Dorsey, the former sheriff of DeKalb County , Georgia , on charges including murder and RICO. John also served as the editor and wrote a chapter of The Right Against Self-Incrimination in Civil Litigation (American Bar Association, Section of Antitrust Law 2001), a book published in July by the American Bar Association. The book contains a comprehensive analysis of the potential problems and opportunities that arise when a party or witness in a civil case is forced to decide whether to invoke the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. In addition, John served as the chair of the Antitrust Section's Civil RICO Committee for four years and currently serves as a Co-Chair of the Business Torts and Unfair Competition Committee.
