John W. Hinchey
John Hinchey is a partner at King & Spalding LLP and leads the firm’s Construction and Procurement Practice Group. He also participates regularly with the Arbitration & Mediation, Business Litigation, Global Projects, Energy Industries, International and Telecommunications Practice Groups. His focus is on the law of construction and commercial contracting matters. He represents clients across a broad spectrum of construction, contracting and procurement activities.

Mr. Hinchey has represented a variety of clients, including large capital companies; consulting firms; private and public schools and universities; state, city and county governments; public authorities; medical institutions; public utilities; private developers and owners; and design professionals and constructors. His experience includes four years in public law, having served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia, and as special counsel to two Governor’s Commissions to study and propose reforms to the judicial system.

Typical of the range of matters for which Mr. Hinchey has been responsible include the negotiation and drafting of design and construction agreements for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games; representation of Turner Broadcasting System in all aspects of its $1.2 billion construction programs; representation of one of the world's largest shipping and logistics companies as core counsel for its worldwide construction transaction and related dispute resolution matters; representation of Wal Mart, Inc., in its largest multi-state construction litigation; representation of The Coca-Cola Company in a significant construction case in the United Kingdom; drafting, negotiating or performing risk analyses of a variety of design-build, turnkey and EPC agreements for such porjects as the Al Udeid Air Base Fueling Facility in Qatar, Turner Field in Atlanta, the Houston Astros’ Stadium, the New England Patriots Stadium, the Philadephia Eagles Stadium, the proposed new Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and a monorail project in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mr. Hinchey is recognized as a national leader in the practice of construction law and related fields. He has served as Chair of the world’s largest organization of construction lawyers, the American Bar Association Forum on The Construction Industry; he has served on the Board of Governors of the American College of Construction Lawyers and is a former Chair of the Atlanta Bar Association, Construction Law Section. He serves on advisory boards for the American Arbitration Association and the CPR Institute, New York. Mr. Hinchey is also recognized on the global scene, and frequently presents papers on construction law topics and arbitration to national and international law organizations. He is currently a member of the American Arbitration Association, the London Court of International Arbitration, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, CPR Institute, Georgia Arbitrators’ Forum, Closure ADR Group, Inc. and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. Mr. Hinchey is currently listed in Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in America, Chambers and Partners list of leading business lawyers, Best Lawyers in America, International Who’s Who of Professionals, and was recently recognized as one of Georgia’s top 100 "Superlawyers."
