E. Kendrick Smith
E. Kendrick “Ken” Smith is with Jones Day in Atlanta. He has special expertise in handling complex business litigation, multi-state tax litigation and land use issues. He also has extensive experience in resolving fiduciary controversies. Over the past 15 years, Ken served as lead counsel on most of Georgia’s landmark multi-state tax cases.  Ken is formerly the section head for the Litigation Department at Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.

Recently, Ken was selected as one of Georgia Trend's "2003 Legal Elite" and one of the 25 most effective business litigation attorneys in Georgia. He was also named by Atlanta Magazine and Law & Politics Media, Inc. as a "Georgia Super Lawyer For 2004" in the area of business litigation.

A native of Atlanta, Ken received his B.A. degree in broadcast journalism in 1978 from the University of North Carolina. He earned his J.D. degree in 1981 from the University of Georgia, where he served on the Georgia Law Review. He has published numerous articles on tax litigation, negotiating skills and business issues and serves on the faculty of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the National Business Institute and Tax Executives Institute and lectures extensively on multi-state tax, business litigation, the art of resolving disputes and trial strategy issues.

Ken is also a leader in the Atlanta community. Among other positions, he serves on the Board of the Atlanta Zoo, Central Atlanta Progress, The John and Mary Franklin Foundation and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home. He also served as the Regional Chairman of the National Conference for Community and Justice, President of Tate Mountain Associates, Inc. and as a trustee for Southwest Hospital and Medical Center. He is a graduate of the 1996-1997 Class of Leadership Atlanta and, with his wife, Caryl, served as Program Chair for the 1998 Leadership Georgia Class.

Mr. Smith is admitted to practice in Georgia. He is a member of the Atlanta and American Bar Association, the Institute of Professionals in Taxation, Tax Executives Institute and the Georgia Academy of Health Care Attorneys.
